Nestled in the beautiful Manistee National Forest near Baldwin Michigan is the Big Star Lake Chapel. A summer chapel that serves those vacationing in the area surrounding Big Star Lake. For over 60 years folks have been gathering to worship while enjoying their time Up North.
Please join us Sundays from Memorial Day to Labor Day as we celebrate God’s goodness in our lives. Worship times are 9:30am every Sunday morning and on July 3 and September 4 an evening service will be held at 5:30pm. View our ministry schedule for more details. We hope you will experience God’s blessing as you worship with us.
At the beginning of the year the Chapel Board came before you to announce an effort to raise funds to upgrade some of the sound equipment. We had an immediate need for upgrading the pastor’s microphones as the wireless technology was aged and at times interfered with other wireless technology in the environment. That need was overwhelmingly met by your generous donations.
The second part of the fund raising effort involved replacing the overhead speakers and sound board which controls all of the equipment. As explained before you on July 3rd, the overhead speakers are aging and have limited functionality. Additionally, the sound board does not easily support requests by the special music who perform here, such as interfaces to an IPad, computer or zip drive. I’m sure some of you have experienced Sunday’s here where this was apparent.
We requested quotes from four companies in Grand Rapids and Holland who install and upgrade this type of equipment. We have received responses back from all of them. Based on their quotes, we are estimating it will cost approximately $20,000 to finish the sound system upgrades. To date, we have received close to $10,000. As such, we have a gap which needs to be addressed before we proceed with the upgrades.
If you would like to help with this goal, please make out contributions to the Big Star Lake Chapel and address them to Bob Austin, 843 Cooks Crossing Dr SE, Byron Center, MI 49315. We would like to have this goal met by early 2017 so the sound equipment can be installed before the Memorial Day service.
Thank you for a great summer and I wish you all the best until we meet again next spring on Memorial Day weekend.
